Puppy Program

Congratulations on acquiring your new puppy! To help welcome your puppy to its new home, Aguajito Veterinary Hospital has developed a puppy program. To insure a healthy start in life, this program will provide your puppy with preventative health care for the first year of its life.

What is included?

• 3 physical exams - One is for the initial visit and the following exams 3-4 weeks apart to help assist with your puppy's growth
• DH(L)PP vaccines - the first shot is given at 6-8 weeks of age then once every three weeks until 16 weeks of age
• 1 Bordetella vaccine given at age 12 weeks
• 1 Rabies vaccine given at age 16 weeks
• 1 de-wormer doses
• 1 fecal test
• With a purchase of the program you are eligible to receive 15%off your puppy's spay/neuter and microchip implant. We recommend spaying or neutering your pet between the agesof 4-6 months. This program also includes free samples of heartgard and flea control.

Vaccinations: To give your puppy the best protection against infectious diseases, we recommend a series of vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks of age and continuing until 16 weeks. After completion of the puppy boosters, the DHPPC (distemper, hepatitis, para-influenza, parvo) vaccine is given once a year. Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine is also given once a year. Some boarding facilities, however, require it every six months. Law requires rabies vaccinations. The first Rabies shot is good for one year; subsequent vaccines are good for three.

De-wormer: This medication removes intestinal parasites including tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms and whipworms.

Fecal test: This test requires you to bring in a small, fresh sample (no more than 4 hours old) of your puppy's feces to test for internal parasites. Tapeworms, which are transmitted by fleas, are not always diagnosed by a fecal test.

Flea and Tick Prevention: We also carry various flea and tick preventative from topical to oral that is recommended all year round in this area.
